My name is Carolyn Butt and I am an Alexander Technique teacher.

I found the Alexander Technique by chance after many years of dealing with a painful back condition which often prevented me doing things I wanted to do and sometimes got me down. After a few lessons I was like a previously shrivelled plant which has been given a bit of water and attention...

I blossomed. I found that natural 'up' which most of us were born with. As I continued to learn and practice the Alexander Technique, I began to walk with a new spring in my step and pain was eventually replaced by energy and joy.

The great thing about the Technique is that once you have learned it, you can always give yourself  'a bit of water and attention' by choosing to use the Technique in your daily life to help you to

* achieve more ease and improve the quality of whatever you do - whether it is competitive sports, musical performance, gardening, word processing at your laptop, walking the pavement or the coast path, texting your friends (ouch - that 'text neck'), giving a talk, carrying your baby, doing the household chores, sitting in your car in a queue of traffic...

* improve your mobility and balance. Alexander Technique helps even if you have arthritis or Parkinson's or an artificial limb or any other condition which interferes with how you move. For scientific studies which show this, click here.

* slow down and yet accomplish more... and more easily

How is that last one possible? Well, you start with learning to notice when you are tensing and making efforts which are more than you need for the task in hand.

Are you hunching over or clenching your teeth as you read this? We all do these things!

In your lessons with me you will learn ways to release all that clenching and tension which none of us need. I will teach you how to find a long forgotten ease and calm in whatever you are doing.
